Internet Safety

The school is connected to Broadband and has filtering and management software installed (called Net Support) to keep children safe on the Internet. Children are always closely monitored when using IT equipment and we take e-safety very seriously indeed. All staff, children and volunteers sign an Acceptable Use Policy (examples on our policies page under Office tab), we have a robust Social Media Policy, Anti-Bullying Policy-which includes cyber-bullying, and we have clear E-Safety guidelines in place for all stakeholders. Training is undertaken annually by staff and we regularly offer parent workshops to provide advice and information about our school policies and procedures.

We believe that children should be taught about the importance of keeping themselves safe from an early age and so many lessons have a safety focus, and safety is a theme that runs through our curriculum,- not just online safety but all types of safeguarding information is shared and explored with children. PSHE lessons and P4C enquiries often include debate about safe behaviour and the safe use of the internet. We participate in Safer Internet Day each year- when children spend the day reviewing safe practice and get involved in film making, creating posters, displays and leaflets to ensure that everyone is educated and knowledgeable about keeping safe online.

Safeguarding our children from extremism and radicalisation

The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 obliges schools and other authorities to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism or extremism.

It important that these risks and dangers are considered for every child, right across the country. This includes those places that have not traditionally seen themselves as being at risk, such as in a primary school like ours. We recognise this fact and ensure that children are safe from online terrorist and extremist material in school, via appropriate levels of filtering, we check the suitability of visiting speakers and make sure that our staff are equipped to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism, as well as to challenge extremist ideas. They know how to refer children for further help.
